I am an Inducted member of the NSLS and a Master's student at Southern New Hampshire University. Through the NSLS I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Williams share his story during the 2021 Leadership Summit. I was impressed with his story of trial and triumph. After the Summit, I contacted Dr. Williams to share his story with a local nonprofit, Our Daily Bread, Food and Resource Center of Taunton, MA. Dr. Williams was more than willing to share with the leadership team, we are still determining where we can properly place his story. Dr. Williams shared about growing up in a poor neighborhood, riddled with drugs, alcohol, and racially motivated expectations. His environment was challenging and overwhelmingly negative which provided little to no chance of becoming anybody, but another statistic. He shared about his successes and downfalls, becoming homeless multiple times. I am impressed with how he holds his head up high, where's his triumphs and failures as a badge of honor, talks about his race not being a factor that held him back in life. It is a truly inspiring story, we both believe we are born into circumstances, but they do not define who we are or who we can become. With the challenging times we are facing through racial injustice, hate speech, and a backwards belief that black men cannot succeed in America, this man's story is an inspiration to ALL.
